Why is this journey of self-love important? What is the point? Well, I feel that through analyzing yourself; your past, behavior and feelings, you gain deeper understanding and appreciation for yourself. This deeper understanding leads to self-development and self-determination, ultimately progressing to intuitive behavior. Why is intuitiveness important? Well, almost every time things have gone pear-shaped in my life its because I have ignored or missed my intuitions queues.
Your brain is far more powerful than you think! When acting intuitively, it draws on collective experience and patterns quickly and effortlessly to make decisions. Rather than conscious reasoning, it’s an instinctive feeling, often subtle and easily missed, especially if you’re distracted by the business of life. I’m still working towards this intuitive behaviour.
Recently, I ignored important ques my body and mind were telling me. I ended up having yet another operation. I’m not sure if it could have been avoided but there were definitely signs for probably a year that something wasn’t quite right. Was it because I didn’t take the time to listen to myself or that I didn’t want to accept that there could be yet another thing wrong? I’m sure my intuition knew.
However, intuitive behavior doesn’t just find what’s wrong with your body, it also helps you decide what’s right. Although most of us are familiar with that sick gut or goosebump feeling when you know something is wrong, it’s harder to identify when your intuition is telling you something is good. This could be anything from trusting a person, identifying an environment fit for your mental health or even intuitive eating- understanding cravings and what nutrients your body is asking for.
So how do we zone into our good intuition? Well as I said earlier I’m still working on this but one thing that has helped me is practicing mindfulness. I know I’ve lost some of you and your thinking ‘whats this modern hippy nonsense’ but this shouldn’t be confused with meditation. It’s really just learning awareness of your feelings, thoughts and body sensations as they happen. Just strengthening your ability to pay attention. If you’re interested in giving this a go just search mindfulness, there’s loads of information and research out there, although make sure you choose your sources wisely. (Hint: There might even be an article or two on this website :))
So here’s this week’s quote:
“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.” – Albert Einstein
